Artisan Crafts
Supporting Craftspeople
Back to our workOur programmes give local people the space, materials and training to learn and practice artisanal skills that can lead to a future income for themselves and their families. Many people in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains drop out of education at a young age or lack the tools to earn an income from their skills.
In our two craft centres, located in the Berber villages of Tamgounssi and Tansghart, we cultivate opportunities for local people to learn and practice weaving, tailoring, embroidery, rug-making and woodworking.
The EBF Shop
The EBF Shop provides an opportunity for both trainee and experienced crafts people from our programmes to sell a range of their handmade products to visiting guests. Fatima, our shop supervisor, shares some of the techniques used to make each unique piece.
Our teachers show participants how to blend Moroccan and contemporary design to create high quality items such as woven throws, hand-carved walnut bowls and embroidered tableware. Products are available to purchase with 40% of the purchase price going back to the maker and the remaining funds used to support our craft programmes.
We care about how things are made and want our guests to enjoy shopping our exclusive gift range, knowing their purchase is completely original.
The EBF Shop helps to provide a sustainable source of income for artisans and their families whilst preserving Berber craft traditions. The shop is located on Route d'Imlil directly after Kasbah Tamadot near the market town of Asni. Come and visit us if you are planning a trip to Morocco's High Atlas Mountains!
Berber Bread Kitchen
We employ two artisan bread bakers, Mina and Malika, to run the Berber Bread Kitchen at Kasbah Tamadot. The bread is crafted and baked in batches in a wood-fired clay oven using traditional methods.
